The lights come on. The TV camera swings towards the fighter. It zooms ins showing a dressed Muay Thai fighter. There are the mongkol and prajiats. The boxer goes over the ropes for a full five rounds of three minutes each. At home, in Thailand, and streaming around the world, Muay Mun Wan Suk begins.

It is promoted out of the legendary Rangsit Stadium in Northern Bangkok. Muay Mun Wan Suk is a new take on the classic Muay Thai stadium show. It combines stadium action with the lights, sounds, and production of entertainment Muay Thai. The show is breaking new ground in the world of Muay Thai.

Muay Mun Wan Suk History

Muay Mun Wan Suk started some time ago. But, after COVID, it found a new home at Rangsit Stadium.

“Muay Mun started five years ago,” show producer, Betty Petchyindee said. “It began with a full sponsorship with the TV station, True for U. Petchyindee worked as the matchmaker and organizer for the show. Now it’s partially sponsored and Petchyindee promotes the show on the channel.”

Petchyindee has been a hallmark in the world of Muay Thai. The company began in 1975. After promoting at Lumpinee and opening its gym began promoting shows in 1994. The company led by Virat Vachirarattanawong (Sia Nao) is a family affair. Nuttadej (Sia Boat) and Thanit (Betty) Vachirarattanawong run the operations now.

Petcyindee found a regular home at Rajadamnern stadium. By 2011 the company was broadcasting Muay Thai around the world. After COVID hit Petchyindee and Muay Mun Wan Suk found a new home at Rangsit Stadium.

The Muay Mun Wan Suk show happens every Friday night with both foreign fighters and national boxers taking the stage. Female bouts and male bouts occur. The show is two sections. The first is a live broadcast on True 4 U around Thailand. The second part is live streamed online. Both find a streaming home on the Petchyindee promotion Youtube.

Rangsit Stadium

Rangsit Stadium is in the Rangsit district of Pathum Thani, the province north of Bangkok.

Constructed in 1980, the stadium is in front of the Muay Thai Institute. The establishment is connected with the World Muay Thai Council and includes instructor courses.

As an older stadium it has the vibrancy and legacy of Rajadamnern, but with the new technology, video, and audio of contemporary stadiums.

Rangsit has hosted Chefboontham shows, WBC Asia Shows and of course Muay Mun Wan Suk.

Adding To the Entertainment

Petchyindee took stadium renovations one stage further adding additional lights and sound. They also added a VIP section with beer and wine service along with a DJ and dancers. The point is to attract a more diverse audience and it is working.

“To build a brand in Thailand, as a Thai brand, I want to be different from other Thai brands,” Betty Petchyindee said.

The lively VIP section is bolstered by the dancers and DJ who come to life between rounds and bouts. There is a separation between the gamblers, on one side of the stadium and the fans who come to see the show. The ring in the middle of the floor is a gathering point for all the Muay Thai enthusiasts.

“If you compare Muay Mun Wan Suk to Rajadamnern or the other stadiums, there are fewer foreigners,” Betty Petchyindee said. “Part of that is because of COVID. But there are more gamblers at the show now. The match ups are getting better and so is the production.”

The match ups set the show apart. The initial shows at the stadium had some big bouts. There was the big boy collision of Teddy Bear Petchyindee, and Teehong Moopingaroyjoongboei. It included a substantial 200,000 side bet.

Since then the show has put on several other high profile bouts, both Thai and foreign alike. Particularly memorable was the bout between Yurik Davtyan Revolution Muay Thai and Kamen Petchyindee. The bout had a huge swing in the odds with Yurik being nearly a 10 to 1 favorite going into the fourth round. Kamen was able to turn the game around and walked forward to win a large victory.

Big Bouts Coming Soon

There are some strong match ups in the making.

“We want to be the best promotion. We want to have good match ups and have more foreign fighters,” Betty Petchyindee said.

The show will put on Capitan Petchyindee Academy versus Sangmanee Sor Coffee Muay Thai.
